Oh so nice in Neath

Last night the Scottish Falsetto Socks returned to the Clown's Pocket in Neath to headline their 3rd birthday party gig. Thanks to Juls Williams for this fab photo of us in action.

From Tony the Landlord I learned a lot about the pub, The Duke, which is one of the oldest in Wales, including the fact that Buffalo Bill kept his horses there when he brought his circus to town, and that an elephant once destroyed the kitchen window. The history of Neath is fascinating (see its Wikipedia entry) and famous Neathians (I'm sure that's not the word) include Ray Milland, Bonnie Tyler, Richard Burton, Katherine Jenkins and Julie Gardner off of Doctor Who.

See the Gig Guide below for details of this Autumn's tour dates in London, Birmingham, Bury, Teddington, Preston, Manchester and Aberystwyth. We're also in Denmark next week, if you can make it.

Socks 2013 calendar gets closer (another teaser)

That Socks calendar gets a little closer. 4 illustrations are coloured, here's one of them.

They're all sci fi pastiches starring the Socks and, yes, they're all brilliant.

Meanwhile if you want a copy of the classic 2012 Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre calendar, it's still available. 12 all new illustrations by Kev F Sutherland, only available in this calendar. Check them out:

Silence of the Lambs, Abbey Road, Gone With The Wind, James Bond, Tubular Bells, Trainspotting, The Kray twins - seriously even we can't believe how good this is and we made it. Available now, only £10.25 from Lulu.

I believe we've said enough.

Tories, an update

Two news stories have come up today to occupy the chattering classes, amongst whom I must number myself. In one, Tory MP Grant Shapps posed as web guru at $3,000-a-head Las Vegas conference, and in the other, the Tory chief whip called a Policeman a Pleb

What amazes me is that this amazes anyone. One Tory MP is shown to be a self-serving shyster and one is demonstrated to be an arrogant snob. Forgive my ignorance, but isn't that why people voted for them in the first place? I'm not a Tory voter myself. But if I was, I would imagine I would be either an aspirational or a privileged person who looked down on and disparaged the unsuccessful and the unlucky. That is what being a Tory means, isn't it?

So if I'd voted for a Tory MP, I'd be majorly pissed off if they were anything less than a self-serving arrogant shit who thought the world owed them a living and who didn't think that anyone poorer than them was a Pleb. Let me tell you, from my experience of Tories, Pleb is one of the kinder words they reserve for the lower orders. Trust me, I've spoken at the Cambridge Union on nights other than the Freshers Debate.

I am reminded of Aesop's Fable of the Farmer & the Viper. You know the story, so I'll cut to the punchline...

"You knew I was a snake before you took me in."

Socks 2013 Calendar - sneak preview

Last night I (Kev F Comic Genius) finished pencilling and inking the 13 illustrations that will comprise the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre's official 2013 calendar, which should be ready in time to become the most coveted Christmas present ever. Here is a sneak preview of the black & white line drawing for just one of those pages:

Yes, you can probably guess what the logo on that page will say. All of 2013's pictures are based on classic scifi movie posters, to go with the theme of our forthcoming 2013 show The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre In Space. Stay tuned here, and as soon as it's coloured and ready to buy, you'll be the first to know.

Meanwhile if you want a copy of the classic 2012 Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre calendar, it's still available. 12 all new illustrations by Kev F Sutherland, only available in this calendar. Check them out:

Frankenstein Song - new from the Socks

New from the Socks, a very special song from Danny Boyle's Frankenstein.

This song struggled through the previews and lasted only three or four shows at Edinburgh before it was cut, both from lack of time and from lack of being actually funny (there are two laughs, you can probably count them). It won't be appearing live agin in a hurry, so do please enjoy.

Gone a bit mad in the Wee Shoppie

Er, I think we may have got a bit carried away in the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre's Wee Shoppie.

When I first set up this Cafepress online shop, it only let us have ten products. And when I updated it earlier, all I did was change the logo on those few products. So imagine my surprise when I looked at the products available to us and found there are hundreds. So, go on everybody, spoil yourselves with some of these unique and official Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet items of quality merchandise...

Golf shirt, baseball jersey, polo jersey, ringer t-shirt (me neither), organic mens t-shirts (these seem to come in a lot of colours and sizes), dog hoodie... DOG HOODIE! It would almost be worth having a dog to get a Socks dog hoodie. And there's more...

Raglan, Womens plus-size v-neck, spaghetti tank (?), infant bodysuit, toddler t shirt, trucker hat, stonewashed cap, thong. Actually the thong really does look wrong doesn't it?

Golf ball, baseball, duvet, trays, iPad covers, stackable mugs, thermos flasks, a jigsaw, field bag, compact mirror, necklace, earrings, bib? There really is no end to this stuff. I want it all (but, the truth be told, will probably never have any of it). Hope you enjoy it folks.

These 2012 Socks items will remain on sale via Cafepress until further notice, while the Boo Lingerie shirts are available while stocks last (and will be on sale at the Socks forthcoming shows in London, Birmingham, Bury, Teddington, Preston, Manchester and Aberystwyth at the lowest price of only £10 per item). The perfect gift for Christmas.

As well as t-shirts in all sizes and a variety of colours, you can now get a sweatshirt, baseball cap, boxer shorts, teddy bear, dog bowl, mug, tote bag, wall clock, or a pack of ten pin badges, at slightly lower prices than before and with the Socks 2012 logo for the first time.

Anyone wanting the Boo Lingerie t-shirts can still get them direct from me for £14 / €21 / $26.50 inc postage by paying by Paypal to sockpuppets@sitcomtrials.co.uk and remembering to state what size you want, and including your address.

Bash Street Zombies remembered

This morning on BBC Breakfast they're discussing the film ParaNorman and asking "how do you make zombies acceptable to kids?". Might I just remind the world of this...

The Bash Street Zombies was written and drawn by me, and serialised (as the best of my work has been) over a few weeks in the Beano back in 2008, in what I think we can fairly call the comic's heyday. At first, when I submitted the script, I really thought Alan Digby the editor was going to reject it as unsuitable. It did take him a few weeks to respond, which kept me worried.

When he did, his email apologised for being "28 days late" in approving the script. They don't make Beano editors like that any more. The whole fully-lettered strip's not available online (or indeed anywhere since its appearance in the weekly) but you can see the original artwork here.

I'm Kev F, the comic writer and artist whose work appears in The Beano, Marvel comics, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf Smegazine, Viz, 2000AD and many points inbetween. If you would like to bring my Comic Art Masterclass to your school or art centre, drop me a line, a comment, a Twitter, Bat-Phone, whatever works.
