Interesting to tot up where my books have sold best in this first third of the year, which saw a particularly busy March for Comic Art Masterclasses and live events, with the other three months being a bit quieter. For this graph (where green bars are schools, and pink are comicons), I've missed out the schools where I sold less than £90 worth of books (which was about half a dozen, with a couple where I sold none at all).
And the best sellers chart looks like this:
1) Clotfin School in Bristol whose pupils bought a record-breaking 80 copies of Richard The Third.
2) Swansea Stars Of Time comicon in April, which accounted for more than half of my sales that month!
3) Bristol Creed comicon, March
4) Bruntsfield Primary, Edinburgh, January - the second school visit of January getting the year off to a very promising start
5=) Somerset UKCGF, Sheffield Creed, and Bournemouth Creed comicons. Only a few quid between them.
So, my school visits are a healthy market for books regularly, on top of me being paid to come and do classes in the first place of course, with some of them really being well organised when it comes to getting the parents to pay for books. And comicons vary in takings, but none has been a washout or lost me money yet so far this year. Next month I start doing signings in bookshops, as well as more of the above, so let us see what that leads to.
Here's how 2024 looked, comicons and book fairs only:
2024 average: £245
2025 average so far: £305
