A fine first night, and day, at #Edfringe

Thanks to Sock fan Paula Cuccurullo for the photo from last night's opening show of Socks Do Shakespeare. She took some more but, she says, "Was peeing myself a bit too hard at the 5 layers of costumes" (a reference to one of the routines).

And what a far better start to our Edinburgh run this was, compared to last year. Last year's first night blog is a litany of woe, whereas this year things went swimmingly. We've been in town since Monday, so we're pretty relaxed and refreshed. And I haven't made the mistake of lining up comic art classes during the day, so I've had time for flyering and power snoozes. Which meant I got to meet some people and get into the Edinburgh vibe.

Good to see Marcus for the first time in years, chewing over the old times and putting the world to rights, and seeing a few old faces including Al Murray, Scott Agnew, Geoff from One4Review, Ian the magician and a scattering more. In the early evening was my first actual performance, doing 3 minutes at Chortle Fast Fringe, backstage of which I got the chance to catch up with Jordan, Benny and Lee from Axis of Awesome, probably for the first time since Adelaide? Conversations today therefore ranged from MS to sex change to HIV, and we've hardly started yet.

And here's the nearest we got to a backstage sock-selfie, with Diane Spencer at Fast Fringe. What with the 15 minute handover, exascerbated last night by the previous shows over-running (as happens every year till we've settled in), there's no time for the luxury of a sock-selfie. Let's see what we can do on location, eh?
