The good news: they’re plugging my classes in Putney this month
The less good news: looks like they’ve used Ai to do the drawing of me on the advert
I stress I had nothing to do with this. I send out my usual promo photo, and logo, and images of comics by kids, and often design a poster for clients myself. This is a first for me.
UPDATE: I have sent the following email, and the amended artwork you can now see.
"Looking forward to my class on Feb 17 in Putney, and thanks for all the effort you're putting into promoting this.
One small problem I've spotted, the online advert appears to have used generative AI to draw the illustration. It's in that generic style that Ai does, and I hope I'm wrong but it looks like that's what it is.
First, if it's a genuine illustrator, please tell me who they are and congratulate them and I apologise. If it's AI though, I'm afraid I can't really have it on my poster. In the comics and illustration biz, Ai art is our worst enemy at the moment, and anything that made it look like I was condoning it, or encouraging its use in a class where I'm teaching kids how to draw, would be the worst thing.
I've attached a drawing of me, by me, which I'd prefer your designer used, if it's not too late to do so. I've done a mock up with my image dropped in, though I realise it's not as finished as the version you've already published.
I'm sorry, I hate to be that guy, but if as I suspect it's Ai art, it can't appear on a poster advertising my art classes. I hope you understand.
Still looking forward to the classes, all the very best..."
My post on Facebook (above) attracted much discussion.

Yikes! They seem very out of step with what the artistic community feels about this slop.
Steve Roberts
It’s incredible that somebody could be so tone-deaf as to book an artist and use gen AI to promote them.
Mark AP McIlmail
The irony is off the scale.

The general public are mostly unaware of the controversy surrounding AI slop among illustrators as the mainstream press don't seem to covering it. Good for you, for putting your foot down. I'll be interested to hear their response.
Shane Chebsey
Good on ya for calling them out on it and educating them

Great & right stance to take Kev.
Steve Bull
Omg this is wild
Louisa Gummer
I think you add Ts&Cs to any contract stating they cannot use Gen Ai to create any promotional material.
David Leach
Great bit of Ai art, well done, Kev. It's good to know someone is at its vanguard.
Play your cards right and it'll probably be able to do your job.
Steve Keyworth
Some interesting choices in the copy too. Much loved what?
