At the Lakes International Comics Festival in Kendal (aka LICAF) I did a Saturday morning workshop that I didn't even get paid for! I know, madness. Anything to be part of the fun. My payment was, of course, the happy smiling faces of a room full of kids. Also their parents bought books, and that's kind of the gamble you take. This is the cover of the comic they took away, and the flipchart I drew too.
At King Arthurs School in Wincanton I seem to agree every year to do three classes in a day - don't listen, other schools, that is not what I do! I charge them a little extra, and what do you know, I'm able to do it, but it's bloody hard work and I'm not going to make a habit of it. Oh and did I mention they're Year 8s? I know. That said, look at the brilliant ideas they came up with, and they were smashing as always.
The third comic of the day, and an advert for my books, which I'd not had the foresight to plug in advance, so I only sold one of. Idiot.
Ashton Keynes near Swindon is a little one-form intake sized primary school who are able to have me teach all of Year 5 and 6 in one day. Which means I have to wait till they've grown a new school-full before I can return. This was, I think, my third time there.
The celebrities these six groups chose to appear in my demonstration strip were evil creepy old Michael Jackson (twice), Claudia Winkleman, Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Alan Carr, and Cristiano Ronaldo.
