★★★★ Edinburgh Spotlight "a perfect comedy fit... will have audiences in stitches"

Thanks Edinburgh Spotlight for a lovely review, our first of the Fringe.

REVIEW – Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre: And So Am I

  *****

An unlikely pair of political pundits they may be, but if Scotland does end up being an independent country come September, it could do worse than pick the knitted stars of the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre as cultural ambassadors for the newly-formed nation.
By now a firm Fringe favourite, the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre’s new show is typical of what has come before: shambolic, amateur, chaotic – and completely hilarious. Much of the humour comes from the surprisingly easy suspension of disbelief that this duo of darned undergarments have lives of their own, rather than being given life by the inimitable talents of just one man. Though the quick-change puppetry and wobbly set are merely a front for some razor-sharp satire and cutting wit, delivered at a breakneck pace which would have lesser comics giving up long before the sixty minutes are up.

(Very) loosely taking politics as a theme, we are treated to a flawless impersonation of the English folkery of Mumford & Sons, asked to state what we would miss if England was “freed from the shackles” of Scotland, and “treated” to one of the socks’ rejected campaign song for UKIP…
Often scatological but seldom vulgar, the Socks are a perfect comedy fit: lovable googly-eyed Fringe institutions who – like themselves – will have audiences in stitches.

Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre: And So Am I runs at The Gilded Balloon until 25 Aug
