This Sceptred Isle - Shakespeare straight by the Scottish Falsetto Socks
This year the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre, in their new comedy show, are doing Shakespeare. But along the way, as a contrast to their usual satirical silliness, they're presenting pieces of original Shakespeare straight, with no chaser. Here's their latest attempt, John Of Gaunt's "This Sceptred Isle" monologue from Richard II. Click to play.
They've also performed straight versions of Richard III and Merchant of Venice, with more still to come. But fans shouldn't worry, the show that they're touring this year and presenting at the Edinburgh Fringe in August, is the usual mix of comic songs, sketches, socks and violence. Here is a taste of the sort of thing you might expect...
The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre do Shakespeare previews at the Leicester Comedy Festival in February and over the coming months, debuting in full at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.
