Why Peppa Pig features so often on the front cover of comics by kids in my ComicArt Masterclasses, I do not know. But I'm pretty sure that that pig has appeared on more covers than any other individual I can think of. Yes, I think it's even more than Donald Trump - and he was once on so many covers I had enough to make them into a calendar!
It seems to be the case that, when I'm getting the kids to come up with a name for the group comic, if they see Peppa Pig on the name of one of the recent comics by other classes that I show them, it gets into their heads and they can't think of anything funnier. Whatever, here are the products of three great days of comic classes with lots of pigs thrown in. And Ronnie Corbett.
Never mind the first mention of Peppa Pig this month, how on earth did Primary School kids get Ronnie Corbett's sitcom Sorry, from 1981, into their heads? The answer is, they didn't. A girl came up with that phrase totally from her imagination, and when it won the knockout selection, it was I who made the Corbett connection while drawing the cover.
My favourite of the Peppa covers this week was Peppa Meets Roadmen. Of course the pupils of Henley In Arden school were thinking of different road men - you can see a hoodie-wearing, cap-wearing, drug dealing street corner ambassador in the background, which is what they had in mind. But I had fun rattling off a quick drawing of road workers, and fun colouring it in my hotel room that night. This week's round trip, by the way, has me waking up at 5.30 am, driving to Henley In Arden, then two and a half hours afterwards driving to Kings Lynn, then after that day driving for another two and a half hours to Enfield. And that's a well-planned tour!
